Medical Marijuana Wax (or Shatter or Dab or Rosin or Concentrate or Moon Rocks) | Discover Marijuana

Cannabis “dabs” are products that typically have very high concentrations of THC and look like wax, butter, honey, or amber-colored glass (called “shatter”).

Marijuana concentrates like waxes and shatters are not for cannabis newbies. That’s because they contain concentrated amounts of THC.

We always recommend that you “start low and go slow” when you’re beginning to work THC into your treatment plan. But to “start low and go slow” with something as potent as a dab can be very difficult.

Cannabis extraction technicians sometimes use solvents like butane, carbon dioxide, or ethanol to separate THC, CBD, and other compounds from cannabis.

There are also solvent-less methods for extracting cannabinoids, though these require more “biomass,” or raw cannabis plant material, than solvent-based methods to produce the same amount of finished product.

Another type of cannabis concentrate you may see at the pharmacy is the distillate syringe. Unlike the other concentrates we’ve mentioned so far, the contents of a distillate syringe are meant for ingestion, not inhalation.

Some other forms of concentrated cannabis are hashish, kief, and vape cartridges.

What are your favorite concentrates and what medical conditions are you using them to treat?
